API Monogram

The API Monogram is a voluntary licensing program that ensures the consistent manufacturing of products that meet applicable API specifications. Licensed manufacturers are granted permission to apply the API Monogram registered mark to equipment that meets the necessary requirements.

Licensees must demonstrate that they have a quality management system that complies with API Spec Q1, a leading industry standard for quality management. API Spec Q1 incorporates most of the ISO 9001 requirements, with additional specifications tailored to the oil and natural gas industry.

The API Monogram Program is designed to recognize organizations that have proven their ability to manufacture equipment that meets API product specifications. While subcontracting is allowed, API may conduct additional audits (at the organization’s expense) of primary subcontractors to ensure compliance with the relevant specifications. API may deny initial licensing or suspend existing licenses based on the manufacturing capability of a facility.

Pre-Requisites for Applying for an API Monogram License:

  1. Quality Management System: Your system must have been operational for at least four (4) months and comply with API Spec Q1.

  2. Quality Manual: This manual must clearly outline how the quality management system meets the requirements of API Spec Q1.

  3. Technical Capability: You must maintain the ability to manufacture products that conform to the relevant API product specifications.

  4. Internal Audit: A documented internal audit must be performed according to API Spec Q1.

  5. Management Review: A documented management review must be carried out in line with the requirements of API Spec Q1.

Below is a list of the API specifications and standards for which licenses are available. The API Monogram mark on products serves as a warranty that the marked items comply fully with the applicable API specifications in effect at the time of manufacture.

API Monogram Mark

The API Monogram is an API-registered certification mark. Through the API Monogram Program, licensed manufacturers are authorized to apply the mark to equipment that conforms to API product specification requirements and has been produced within a quality management system that complies with API Spec Q1.

Licensees agree that by using the API Monogram on their products, they are providing a representation and warranty to API and to purchasers that the products meet the applicable standards and specifications of API.

The API Monogram Mark is a protected trademark, and its use is strictly regulated by contract agreements with licensees. The mark can only be applied to new products that meet the applicable specifications and are manufactured by the licensed organization at their certified facility.
